Radiation Maculopathy Is Anticipated by Oct Hyperreflective Retinal Foci

Abstract

To identify patients at risk for radiation macular edema (ME), we analyzed hyperreflective retinal foci (HRF) in retinal layers of irradiated eyes. HRF progressively and significantly increased in number after irradiation, until the appearance of ME, confirming their role as a clinical biomarker anticipating the appearance of radiation-induced ME.
