Radiative transitions between lowest autoionizing states in sodium

Abstract: The wavelengths and radiative transition probabilities for the transitions 2p 5 3s3p LSJ → 2p 5 3s 2 2 P 1/2,3/2 and 2p 5 3s3p LSJ → 2p 6 3p 2 P 1/2,3/2 in Na atoms are calculated by using large scale configuration interaction approximation. The autoionization probabilities and electron impact excitation cross-sections for the 2p 5 3s3p LSJ levels are also calculated in single configuration intermediate coupling approach. The obtained results are used for evaluation of the role of radiative cascade transitions… Show more

“…Since all previous classifications of ejected-electron lines were performed for spectra measured at high impact energies, namely at 750 eV and higher [22,26,31], we have reviewed these data for conformance with the excitation dynamics of lines observed in the present spectra. In addition, we have performed a comparative analysis of the spectroscopic interpretation of lines observed in photoabsorption [19,20,32,33] and optical [34][35][36] experimental spectra and in the theoretical calculations [37][38][39][40].…”

“…Theoretical investigation of the 5p-core-excited autoionizing states of Cs is a complex task as the relativistic effects play a more important role compared with Na [1,2,3,4], K [5] or Rb [6]. The first attempt to perform the classification of Cs spectrum registered in an ultraviolet absorption experiment was made by Connerade [7] in jK notations.…”

“…Over the last 15 years, a remarkable progress has been made in experimental and theoretical studies of autoionization processes in alkalis. In particular, the systematic data on excitation dynamics, cross sections and spectroscopic classification of autoionizing levels arising from the excitation of subvalent shells were obtained for Li [12][13][14], Na [15,16], K [17][18][19] and Cs [20,21] atoms. As regards rubidium, by now the ejected-electron spectra have been reported only for two electron impact energy values of 27 and 400 eV [22].…”
