Raman scattering from the vibrational modes inZn1xMn

Abstract: %e report the observation of Raman scattering associated with the vibrational modes in the diluted magnetic semiconductor Znl "Mn, Te. The low-frequency two-phonon density-of-states features in Znl "Mn"Te, similar to those of ZnTe, exhibit composition-dependent Raman shifts. Lawfrequency disorder-induced one-phonon density-of-states features are also present in the Raman spectra for x &0.10. The optical phonons of Znl "Mn"Te exhibit a variation with x that is intermediate between the two-mode and one-mode situ… Show more

“…Similar experiments performed on Zn 1−x Mn x Te NWs also revealed spectra with shifts and splittings of Raman lines comparable to those observed in bulk Zn 1−x Mn x Te mixed crystal [32] with a composition equal to the composition of NWs estimated based on their lattice constant. In the case of Zn 1−x Mn x Te NWs, additional support for the substitutional incorporation of Mn into the zinc site of the lattice comes from the observation of the strong photoluminescence line centered at an energy around 2 eV.…”

“…These values are similar to analogous parameters obtained for some wide-gap Il-VI compounds, e.g. (Zn,Mn)Se, (Cd,Mn)Se [12], (Zn,Mn)Te and (Cd,Mn)Te [2]. As the fraction of Mg increases, experimental data of the Raman shift for MgSe-like and ZnSe-like modes deviate from the calculated ones.…”

“…element, which has an atomic mass significantly smaller than this of constituent atoms of a host 1attice, can be described by two-mode model [1,2]. This lighter component exhibits a vibrational mode (local mode) with a frequency higher than that of the perfect crystal.…”

“…5 19,25 Although the resonance Raman scattering has allowed the observation of the many phonon features even at very low iron concentrations ͑x ϳ 0.01͒ in Zn 1−x Fe x Te, one needs much higher x to explore the concentration dependence of the phonon frequencies to fully establish the intermediate mode behavior.…”
