“…In our process, 10 Raman peak present at ~805 cm -1 indicates B-O bonds [12], while that at ~880 cm -1 indicates the O-H bonds indicative of H 3 BO 3 [13]. Note the absence of the latter after heat treatment.…”

“…Thermal parameters [18][19][20]. Small differences among the microRaman spectra of the glasses, concerning variations b10% in the relative area of the peaks, were observed to be~720 cm −1 ,~1363 cm −1 and 1463 cm − 1 wavenumbers.…”

“…The band vibration at~882 cm −1 was attributed to B\∅\B stretching in pyroborate (B 2 ∅ O 4 4 − ) units [18,19,21]. According to Maniu et al [20], pyroborate groups are present in small number from low to high CaO content, but they can still be detected by Raman spectroscopy. Santos et al [18] observed the formation of pyroborate units for glass at 4Y 2 O 3 -32CaO-64B 2 O 3 mol% composition by Raman spectroscopy.…”

“…Tellurites glasses on the other hand typically have phonon energy levels <800 cm -1 , meaning the 4 I 11/2 level of Er 3+ ions has a modest lifetime that can allow back-transfer of energy to a Yb 3+ co-dopant, alternatively the stored population in this level can be extracted parasitically via excited state absorption (ESA), energy transfer upconversion (ETU), or simply radiatively to the ground state. Presented last year at this conference [6] we explored Teullurite compositions based on a zinc oxide glass former, magnesium oxide modifier, and borate additive to capitalise on the more energetic stretching vibrations of the B-O -bonds [7], up to about 1400 cm -1 . This indeed assisted efficient absorbed pump energy transfer by Yb 3+ to Er 3+ , however it was at the expense of the 4 I 13/2 level lifetime, reducing it to ~3 ms.…”
