“…After taking the medicine, the bowel cleanliness is high, which will not increase the pain of patients. The patient's compliance is high and the psychological state is good [ 24 , 25 ]. The results of this study showed that the effective rate of bowel cleaning in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group ( P < 0.05), and the frequency of defecation and duration of diarrhea in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P < 0.05), which suggested that PGEP had a rapid and effective role in bowel preparation.…”

“…Laxatives are an alternative option for 'getting rid of' recipient gut microbiota, and are gaining more and more popularity in human FMT treatments considering that antibiotic treatment has the potential risk of causing multidrug resistance, which is also one of the major concerns and limitations for wider FMT implementations in clinical practices. A study showed that 40 mL/kg of polyethylene glycol (PEG 4000) provides efficient bowel cleaning in human subjects [80]. Another recent study reported that 425 g/L of PEG administered by oral gastric gavages at 20 min intervals can empty the intestine and decrease the gut microbiota by 90% after four successive administrations in mice [81].…”

“…In our opinion, a split-dose regimen would help to solve this problem and improve tolerability. Two studies conducted in Asia have demonstrated that split-dose regimens (half the dose given the day before colonoscopy between 18:00 and 20:00, and half the dose given the day of colonoscopy between 06:00 and 08:00) for bowel cleansing are both effective and well tolerated ( 5 , 6 ); however, in most European centers, adherence to fasting times for deep sedation or general anesthesia in pediatrics does not allow colonoscopy on the same day as oral bowel cleansing.…”

“…E ffective bowel cleansing before colonoscopy is crucial to allow complete visualization of the colonic mucosa (1). Several protocols and cleansing preparations are used as there are few randomized trials to guide recommendations in children (2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7). In addition, bowel cleansing solutions in children are limited by acceptance and safety issues.…”
