Rapid Appraisal for Agricultural Land Utilization in the erosion and landslide vulnerable mountainous areas of Kulonprogo Regency, Indonesia

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the land utilization in the erosion and landslide vulnerable mountainous region using the Rapid Appraisal for Agricultural Land Utilization (RApALU) model. Design/methodology/approach A multidimensional RApALU model is used for sustainable agriculture land utilization. Findings Ecological dimension was less sustainable, whereas socio-economic, socio-cultural, and eco-technological dimensions were comparatively more sustainable. It was found from the analysis t… Show more

“…The steep slope in the highwall zone results in low stability to keep the slope standstill. As a result, along the highwall zone, it is prone to landslides and cliff erosion (Juhadi et al, 2020). Slope failure displaces not only the surface soil layer but also the parent material and andesite rock.…”

“…However, the growth in populations will also intensify interaction with nature. As a consequence, changes to the physical condition of the environment are inevitable (Juhadi et al, 2021(Juhadi et al, , 2020Rockström et al, 2009;Trihatmoko et al, 2021). One human activity in volcano environments that can dramatically change environmental conditions is stone mining exploration.…”

“…Recently, experiments have employed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images [7,8] although detecting and mapping landslides using SAR remains challenging [9]. Additionally, numerous studies in agricultural areas have employed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) [10][11][12][13].…”

“…Humans can choose to develop components that are considered to support land development and eliminate components that are considered useless. However, this phenomenon is increasing significantly in reality, mainly to manipulate the conditions and ecological processes in several areas [3,4].…”
