“…Commercially manufactured intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) has recently gained popularity as a post-exercise recovery modality, with various athletes having anecdotally supported its use for enhancing post-exercise recovery. IPC is advantageous as it does not require muscle tone to create the appropriate pressure to increase venous and lymphatic return to reduce swelling, [ 33 ] where historically it has been used during the post-surgery recovery phase and to treat venous thromboembolism, [ 19 ] deep vein thrombosis [ 16 ] and prevent venous stasis [ 36 ] . Additionally, IPC has been reported to improve limb haemodynamics, [ 14 ] limb ischemia [ 25 ] and ulcer healing [ 30 ] .…”
