Rapid recovery of high content phytosterols from corn silk

Abstract: BackgroundPhytosterols have important physiological and officinal function.MethodsAn efficient ultrasonic assisted extraction, purification and crystallization procedure of phytosterols was established from corn silk for the first time.ResultsThe orthogonal test was applied to optimize the process parameters and a maximum phytosterols recovery as high as 10.5886 mg/g was achieved by ultrasonic treatment for 55 min with liquid–solid ratio of 12:1 at 35 °C, 220 w. The ultrasonic extraction temperature (T, °C) ha… Show more

“…KIM-1 is a trans-membrane protein receptor mostly expressed during acute kidney injury. Patients with acute renal injury usually express elevated KIM-1 mRNA levels compared with normal patients [ 38 ]. The early preliminary biomarker for acute and chronic renal injury, KIM-1, was up-regulated in cadmium exposed rats used in this study.…”

“…The constituents of corn silk aqueous extract were analyzed by a UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS approach, and then the base peak intensity chromatograms (Figure 1) were obtained. After multiple data processing steps, 76 compounds including caffeic acid (peak 35) and ten of its derived components (peaks 16,20,26,28,31,33,36,49, 51, and 54), (E)-p-coumaric acid (peak 46) and two of its derived components (peaks 24 and 42), ferulic acid (peak 53) and four of its derived components (peaks 27, 30, 38, and 47), five flavones (peaks 44, 45, 55, 61, and 63) and other constituents were successfully identified in negative mode. The identified results were shown in Table 1.…”

“…Corn silk, an important TCM comprising the dried yellowish stigma and silk of corn fruit, has been widely applied for disorders such as diabetes , cancer , obesity , hypertension , inflammation , fatigue , and others . Modern studies elucidated that corn silk consists of numerous constituents such as polysaccharides , flavonoids , diterpenoids , alkaloids , steroids , and more . However, until now, the overall constituents of corn silk aqueous extract, especially the bioactive constituents, still remain unclear.…”

“…To determine the optimal yeast immobilization conditions and maximize the sorption of Ni(II) by yeast cells, based on the data obtained from the single factor study, the effects of three independent variables, including the concentrations of calcium chloride (1.5–2.5%) and sodium alginate (2.5–3.5%), as well as temperature (15–25°C) were investigated using an orthogonal test with three levels to optimize the immobilization of surface-engineered yeast (Zhang et al, 2017).…”

“…The Ni(II) sorption capability was calculated according to a standard curve using an inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometer. Based on the single factor data, an orthogonal test with three factors and three levels was designed to optimize the immobilization parameters (Zhang et al, 2017). The binding capability of Ni(II) = the weight of absorbed Ni(II) (g)/total weight of Ni(II) (g) in the medium.…”
