Rapid, Simple, and Highly Specific Detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae With Visualized Recombinase Polymerase Amplification

Abstract: Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major pathogen that causes microbiological illness in humans. The introduction of polyvalent vaccines has resulted in a significant decrease in pneumococcal-related mortality. However, pneumococcal infections continue to be a leading cause of death in children under the age of 5 and adults over the age of 65 worldwide. A speedy and highly sensitive diagnostic tool is necessary for routine adoption to adequately manage patients and control the spread of infection. In this study, we… Show more

“…Subsequently, according to the reaction system, nucleic acid detection was performed according to the instructions of the Streptococcus pneumoniae Nucleic Acid Detection Kit and the RAA Nucleic Acid Amplification Kit. The real-time fluorescent RAA primers and probes used in this study for the amplification of Streptococcus pneumoniae were based on previous studies, 25 and all primers and probes were produced by Biotech Biotechnology Co.…”

“…8–11 Unfortunately, culture-based methods often entail lengthy growth and identification periods, leading to delayed positive identification and potentially unfavorable outcomes for infected individuals. 8 Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop rapid and precise approaches to identify S. pneumoniae. 12–14 In recent decades, several non-culture methods have emerged as alternatives for detecting S. pneumoniae , such as mass spectrometry, 15,16 immunoassay, 17,18 and PCR-based assays.…”

“…7 However, the current methods employed for detecting S. pneumoniae rely on phenotypic characteristics, including culture-based, microscopy-based, and biochemical identification techniques.
