The distribution of surface integrity features directly affects the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks. In this paper, the surface integrity characteristics changing law of turning and ultrasonic impacting specimens during high cycle fatigue loading has been studied, and the effect of surface modified layer on the fatigue properties of titanium alloy has been revealed. The results showed that the surface roughness increased with the increase of fatigue cycles. The compressive residual stress and its gradient distribution depth decreased continuously. The gradient distribution depth of residual stress in the ultrasonic-impacted surface rapidly decreased by about 50% near the fracture stage. Local cyclic hardening occurred at 20–50 μm from the surface of the specimen in the early stage of fatigue evolution, and then the microhardness continued to decrease. During this process, there were no significant changes in hardened layer depth. The fibrous microstructure of the ultrasonic-impacted surface undergoes a process from coarsening to gradual disintegration during the fatigue process. Its attenuation process needs a longer period of time. The fatigue source of the turned specimen was located at about 320 μm from the surface, and the fatigue source of ultrasonic impact was about 610 μm from the surface. The fatigue striation width of the ultrasonic impact specimen was about 20% narrower than that of the turned specimen. The fatigue life of the ultrasonic impact specimen was increased by 73.9% compared with the turned specimen. The research in this paper is of great significance for exploring the anti-fatigue mechanism and the ability of various surface integrity features.

In this paper, a corrugated Mg/Al clad plate was successfully manufactured by an upper corrugated roller and a lower flat roller at 400 °C rolling temperature and 35% reduction ratio. Interface bonding performance of the corrugated Mg/Al clad plate was studied by tensile-shear test. The finite element method was used to simulate the corrugated rolling process. Experiment results revealed that the Mg/Al clad plate fabricated by corrugated roller had a tight bonding interface, no crack, and no intermetallic compounds. The transverse tensile-shear strength at the trough position reached 31.22 MPa, and the tensile-shear strength at the peak position was 17.61 MPa. It can be found that the stress and strain of interface metal at the trough position were the largest through numerical simulation results. Two cross-shear zones can be formed in the rolling deformation zone of the corrugated Mg/Al clad plate, which can accelerate the metal plastic flow and promote interface close bonding.

Ratcheting Simulation of a Steel Pipe with Assembly Parts under Internal Pressure and a Cyclic Bending Load

The ratcheting behavior of a steel pipe with assembly parts was examined under internal pressure and a cyclic bending load, which has not been seen in previous research. An experimentally validated and three dimensional (3D) elastic-plastic finite element model (FEM)-with a nonlinear isotropic/kinematic hardening model-was used for the pipe's ratcheting simulation and considered the assembly contact effects outlined in this paper. A comparison of the ratcheting response of pipes with and without assembly parts showed that assembly contact between the sleeve and pipe suppressed the ratcheting response by changing its trend. In this work, the assembly contact effect on the ratcheting response of the pipe with assembly parts is discussed. Both the assembly contact and bending moment were found to control the ratcheting response, and the valley and peak values of the hoop ratcheting strain were the transition points of the two control modes. Finally, while the clearance between the sleeve and the pipe had an effect on the ratcheting response when it was not large, it had no effect when it reached a certain value.
