Reactive X (where X = O, N, S, C, Cl, Br, and I) species nanomedicine

Keyi Wang,
Weipu Mao,
Xinran Song
et al.

Abstract: Reactive oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, carbonyl, chlorine, bromine, and iodine species (RXS, X = O, N, S, C, Cl, Br, and I) play important roles in normal physiological processes through governing cell signaling, immune balance, and tissue homeostasis.

“…The catalytic ability of nanoparticles toward biochemical reactions enables their various medical applications, including biological detection, disease diagnosis, and therapy, usually known as catalytic nanomedicine . In recent decades, catalytic nanomedicines have attracted significant attention because they can potentially alleviate the shortcomings of conventional small molecule drugs, such as high dosage, poor targeting, severe toxicity, side effects, and susceptibility to drug resistance.…”

“…Although the free radical mechanism has been widely accepted in the study of catalytic nanomedicine, it has several weak points in terms of its experimental evidence and its ability to understand the substance selectivity for nanoparticle-catalyzed reactions. Instead, these weak points do not exist in the surface chemistry mechanism, which will be discussed in detail below.…”
