Recent Advances Regarding Constituents and Bioactivities of Plants from the Genus Hypericum

Abstract: I present a literature survey of the currently available Doppler images of cool stars. The 65 individual stars with Doppler images consist of 29 single stars and 36 components in close binaries. Out of the total, 31 were observed only once but 12 stars are (or were) being monitored for years. Each image for each star is identified with the time when it was observed, whether photometry was used in the imaging, the inclination of the stellar rotation axis, the v sin i, the stellar rotation period, and whether a … Show more

“…Hypericum species are one of the most intensely studied groups in the research area of drug design and discovery of natural products for their effective pharmacological contents [ 57 ]. Many different Hypericum species’ anti-neoplastic effects have been reported in various cancer types, and specific phytochemical libraries were generated for new drug formulations [ 58 63 ]. In this study, anti-neoplastic effects of H .…”

“…In contrast to conventional photosensitizing agents such as TB, ICG, MB and Ce6, the high anti-bacterial efficiency of H. perforatum extract cannot be attributed to mechanisms involving only one specific pure substance. Interestingly, synergetic interactions between three main constituents – namely hypericin, pseudohyperin and hyperforin – are responsible for the high antimicrobial potential of H. perforatum 26,27,71,72 . Nevertheless, their exact mechanism of action remains unknown 26,27 .…”

“…comprises nearly 500 species and is subdivided into 36 taxonomic sections [1]. The plants of this genus have been proved to be rich sources of prenylated phenolic metabolites with diverse phloroglucinols, xanthones, and flavonoids structures as well as valuable bioactivities such as antidepressant, antibacterial, and antiproliferative activities [24]. Our group has been engaged in the systematic studies of isoprenylated polyphenols from Hypericum species for more than ten years, and has discovered a series of fascinating chemical structures with intriguing biological activities [515].…”
