Recent Development in Metallic Nanoparticles for Breast Cancer Therapy and Diagnosis

Abstract: Metal‐based nanoparticles are very promising for their applications in cancer diagnosis, drug delivery and therapy. Breast cancer is the major reason of death in woman especially in developed countries including EU and USA. Due to the heterogeneity of cancer cells, nanoparticles are effective as therapeutics and diagnostics. Anti‐cancer therapy of breast tumors is challenging because of highly metastatic progression of the disease to brain, bone, lung, and liver. Magnetic nanoparticles are crucial for metastat… Show more

“…In recent decades, there has been a great improvement in OS of BRCA patients, but metastasis or death still occurs in 15% of patients ( Bertucci and Goncalves, 2017 ). Due to the high heterogeneity of BRCA, the effects of postoperative chemotherapy and endocrine therapy are significantly different ( Subhan and Muzibur Rahman, 2022 ). Although it is traditionally considered that the immunogenicity of BRCA is poor compared with melanoma ( Kalaora et al, 2022 ) and renal cell carcinoma ( Zhou et al, 2022 ), which have made enormous progress in immunotherapy, the latest studies suggest that immunotherapy may activate immune activation pathways and specifically kill tumor cells, providing a new way to further improve the prognosis of BRCA patients ( Adeshakin et al, 2022 ).…”

“…Recent strides in the study of metallic nanoparticles (MNPs) have impacted the biomedicine landscape, attributable to their exceptional adaptability in diagnostics and therapeutic applications [ 304 ]. MNPs exhibit an array of distinguished properties: an enhanced electromagnetic field at their surface, a comprehensive suite of optical characteristics, efficient synthesis routes, facile manipulation of their surface chemistry, adaptability in surface modifications, low toxicity, biocompatibility, biofilm inhibition, reactive oxygen species formation, shape and morphology controllable, and easy functionalization.…”

“…The use of these treatment methods has many side effects that reduce the quality of life of breast cancer sufferers 9 . Recently, researchers are looking for alternative therapy methods to control bacterial infections and cancers, and one of these approaches is the use of metallic nanoparticles 10 .…”
