“…This criterion is consistent with the Joint National Committee (JNC) 7 [ 27 ]. The blood pressure classification criteria in our study are different from the new blood pressure classification criteria reported by the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) [ 28 ]. Recently, Ihm et al reported that applying the new blood pressure standard to Asians may not be appropriate [ 27 ].…”

“…Demonstrating this threshold and effect of SBP, in a parametric manner, on a continuous score of executive function was made possible by two unique factors of this study: the large sample size of the UK Biobank and the use of a latent variable based on neuropsychological testing, which is likely more sensitive than traditionally used total cognitive test scores. Intriguingly, this BP threshold actually reflects current American and European guidelines, which are based primarily on endpoints of cardiovascular events and associated morbidity 39,40 . The findings of the current study have the potential to provide meaningful evidence on BP targets for cognitive health in normal ageing.…”

“…The number of individuals with hypertension and associated deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) is substantially increasing 1‐3 . In India, elevated blood pressure (BP) is considered the most important risk factor for chronic disease burden 4‐6 contributing to premature morbidity and mortality. In 2017 CVD accounted for 26.57 % of total deaths with ischemic heart disease accounting for 15.54% and stroke for 7.33% of total deaths in India 7 .…”
