Recent Progress in Sulfonylation via Radical Reaction with Sodium Sulfinates, Sulfinic Acids, Sulfonyl Chlorides or Sulfonyl Hydrazides

Abstract: Sodium sulfinates, sulfinic acids, sulfonyl chlorides and sulfonyl hydrazides as readily available and efficient sulfonylation reagents have been extensively explored in recent years. Sulfonyl radical can be generated from these sulfonyl reagents via different methods, then the sulfonyl radical could react with various substrates via different pathways to afford the corresponding products. In this review, we will summarize the progress in sulfonylation via radical reaction using sodium sulfinates, sulfinic aci… Show more

“…Sulfonyl radicals derived from alternative precursors such as sulfinate salts, or sulfonyl chlorides, have also been utilized for the preparation of sulfonyl products (Scheme 18, B). 56 The introduction of solid surrogates of SO 2 , as well as modern methods for the generation of radicals from various precursors, has resulted in a rapid development of new methods for the synthesis of sulfonyl-derived products. 57…”

“…[90] A new report on metal catalyzed sulfonation via radical reaction has been published very recently by Dong and coworkers. [91] The main aim of writing this review is not only to discuss the transition metal-free sulfenylation reactions, but also to emphasis the role of environment benign methodologies in CÀ S bond formation. The mechanistic pathways the reactions proceed through, along with different sulfenylating reagents have been elaborated in the present review.…”

“…This can be partially attributed to its gaseous form, notable toxicity and stinky properties that force researchers to use other available SO 2 sources. [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] There is a surge of attention paid to innovative and improved synthetic techniques for introduction of sulfur including functional groups, like sulfones and sulfonamides, in the structure of agrochemicals, medicines, and other organic materials. [12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Thus, the development of convenient and stable SO 2 surrogates is thought to be a key driver in the revitalization of sulfur-based organic synthesis research.…”
