Background Many effective physical activity (PA) interventions have focused on individual factors or a single theoretical model, limiting our understanding of the determinants of PA practice and their interactions in the cancer trajectory. The present mixed-method study aims to capture social and psychological determinants of PA practice from diagnosis to remission among cancer patients, and to identify key levers for PA practice. Methods/design A nested sequential mixed-method design QUAN (QUAL+QUAL) will be used, with qualitative studies embedded in the quantitative study to broaden our understanding of the determinants of PA practice. The design is sequential, since qualitative data on medical staff will be collected before patient inclusion (Phase 1), followed by quantitative patient data collection lasting one year (Phase 2) and a final qualitative data collection one year after inclusion (Phase 3). Phase 1 will be a case study in the two hospitals involved in the study, exploring knowledge of and support for PA practice among medical staff. Through interviews and documental analyses, the PA support dynamic will be evaluated with regard to PA prescription. Phase 2 will be a one-year observational study among 693 cancer patients. Quantitative medical, social, dispositional and psychological data, PA practices and preferences, will be collected at diagnosis, and six months and one year thereafter. Phase 3 will be a retrospective study, evaluating societal and policy factors, as well as unexpected factors playing a role in PA levels and preferences among cancer patients. For this phase thirty patients will be identified six months after inclusion on the basis of their PA profiles. Quantitative data will provide the main dataset, whilst qualitative data will complete the picture, enabling determinants of PA practice and their interactions to be captured throughout the cancer trajectory. Discussion The present study aims to identify key levers and typical trajectories for PA practice among cancer patients, adapted to different times in the course of cancer and taking into account “what works”, “for whom”, “where” and “how”. The challenge is the tailoring of PA interventions to patients at different times in their cancer trajectory, and the implication of medical staff support. Background: The marketing of alcohol influences patterns of alcohol consumption. Existing studies have focused, for the most part, on adolescents and the links between exposure to marketing and alcohol initiation. In France, the Evin law, a French exception, was set up in 1991 with the aim of regulating this exposure to marketing, but since 2009 it has been severely compromised. Alcohol consumption causes severe damage, which may be seenfrom 1 standard unit per day and mostly among adults who are regular users of alcohol. In this at-risk population, studies analysing the impact of marketing are sparse. The specific objectives include (i) the evaluation of the perception of alcohol marketing by patients with an AUD (ii) gaining understanding of the links between alcohol marketing and patients with AUD behaviours (iii) the development of alcohol demarketing strategy in patients receiving AUD coaching. Methods: Our main objective isto evaluate the impact of marketing on a population with an AUD. The methodology was in 4 steps: step 1 is a pre-test (N = 100) selecting type of alcohol consumed and type of marketing stimuli identified by patients aged 18 + with an AUD. Step 2 is a qualitative study (N = 20), with in-depth interview, to understand links between alcohol marketing and patients with AUD behaviours. Step 3 is a quantitative study(N = 600) to confirm these links and the impact of alcohol marketing on patients with AUD behaviours. Step 4 is an interventional step, including and testing the impact of demarketing intervention on patients with AUD while using the results of the three first steps (N = 120). Discussion: This study will contribute to a better definition of the impact of alcohol marketing on patients with AUD and will enable identification of the determinants of this impact. These data will inform the development of interventions that take into account demarketingstrategies on patients under AUD management. Trial registration: The Trial registrationregistration number is NCT03876132, and it was registered on the 15th march 2019.

Cet article propose un retour réflexif sur une expérience de séminaire interdisciplinaire, à l’initiative de chercheurs en philosophie et en sociologie, et de médecins chercheurs en santé publique. L’objectif du séminaire était de s’interroger sur les mécanismes à l’œuvre lors de la mise en place et de la réalisation de recherches interdisciplinaires. Il s’agissait d’explorer les modalités concrètes d’articulation entre des recherches en santé et des recherches en sciences humaines et sociales, afin de mieux cerner les conditions, les tensions et les apports d’une telle rencontre et d’un travail commun. Ces questions étaient abordées à partir de l’analyse détaillée de cas de recherches récentes ou en cours. Quatre cas ont ainsi été étudiés. L’analyse des cas a fait émerger quatre questions « exemplaires », d’ordre épistémologique ou méthodologique, auxquelles les chercheurs qui mènent des travaux articulant santé et sciences humaines et sociales sont confrontés : les conditions institutionnelles et leurs effets sur la recherche ; la déconstruction de l’objet ; l’engagement du chercheur sur son terrain ; l’articulation des méthodes de recherche. Trois préalables à la rencontre entre la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales et en santé ont été identifiés : l’interrogation mutuelle des postures et des espaces investis ; la prise de conscience des tensions liées aux positions institutionnelles et aux appartenances disciplinaires ; l’élaboration en commun et le va-et-vient entre différents types de savoirs pour que l’interdisciplinarité accompagne tout le processus de recherche.
