Recombinant human epidermal growth factor combined with vacuum sealing drainage for wound healing in Bama pigs

Abstract: Background: Vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) both play an important role in the treatment of wounds. This study aims to explore the effect of the combination of VSD and EGF on wound healing and the optimal concentration and time of EGF.Methods: In this study, we tested the proliferation and migration capacity of HaCaT and L929 cells at different EGF concentrations (0, 1, 5, 10, and 100 ng/ml) and different EGF action times (2, 10, and 30min). A full-thickness skin defect model wa… Show more

“…Recombinant human epidermal growth factor (RhEGF) is a kind of cell growth factor composed of many kinds of amino acids, and RhEGF eye drops can effectively promote cell division and receptor binding to a certain extent, activate cells, cause cell cascade reaction, increase protein, RNA, and DNA synthesis, accelerate cell metabolism, promote the proliferation of corneal epidermal cells, and accelerate the proliferation and differentiation of corneal epithelial stem cells [6]. In addition, it can stimulate the proliferation of fibrous cells and corneal stroma and enhance the arrangement of collagen lamella [6,7]. Optogenetics is a technique that combines optics and genetics to control specific neurons, which is widely applied in the peripheral nervous system, such as vision study [7].…”

“…Recent research shows that a growing number of novel technologies, such as recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rh-EGF) and povidone iodine (PVI), contribute to accelerated wound healing [6,7]. EGF is shown to promote skin repair and remodeling by stimulating the growth of epithelial cells in wounds, thus speeding up wound healing [8,9].…”

“…A few authors investigated the effect of novel methods for wound healing in animal studies. Wei et al [47] studied Bama pigs and discovered that recombinant human epidermal growth factor at a concentration of 10 ng/ml can promote the proliferation and migration of epithelial cells and fibroblasts to the greatest extent, and can be further enhanced by vacuum sealing drainage. Yang et al [48] improved the use of LL-37 peptide to promote wound healing by incorporating it into chitosan hydrogel, improving its stability in the wound environment, thus improving the healing of pressure ulcers in a mouse model.…”
