“…In contrast, HD may only marginally reduce the duration of mechanical ventilation in baclofen poisoning while potentially increasing the risk of withdrawal. 30 Risks of extracorporeal treatments include those associated with catheter insertion and bleeding from anticoagulation and antidote removal (e.g., N-acetylcysteine, ethanol, fomepizole, and pyridoxine). Costs of a single dialysis, including equipment and nursing/physician fees, are usually minor compared with the cost of a day in the intensive care unit and can reduce the duration over which costly antidotes are needed (e.g., fomepizole for methanol poisoning).…”
