“…A low level of vitamin D during the pregnancy and special attention during the early stage of pregnancy produce less bone mineral content in the fetal skeleton. Calcitriol cord blood concentrations tend to be lower than those found in maternal serum [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ] due to the fact that calcitriol cannot easily cross the placental barrier [ 24 , 25 ], and parathyroid hormone concentrations are low in the fetus [ 26 ].
