Reconfigurable modified wilkinson power divider using PIN diode switch

Abstract: In this paper, a reconfigurable modified Wilkinson Power Divider (WPD) was proposed. The operating frequencies of the proposed design were either at 2.5 GHz or 3.5 GHz for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) applications. This proposed design is reconfigurable in terms of its operating frequency by using PIN diode switches. PIN diode switch was used in this design to reconfigure the microstrip line length. By varying the bias voltage of the PIN diode to +5 V or -5 V, the proposed modified W… Show more

“…Large-sized two ports antenna with no practical manufacture delivered have been distinguished. Edward et al [20] offered frequency reconfigurable with Wilkinson power divider (WPD) via eight PIN diodes. Two bands, limited return loss in some cases, and more complexity have been offered by the fabricated antenna.…”

“…To design a reconfigurable power divider, tuneable reactive elements such as varactors, diodes, or MEMS capacitors are used to adjust the operating frequency. By controlling the capacitance of these elements, the operating frequency range can be changed [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. Tuneable power dividers [12,13] provide a tuning range from 0.83-2.4 GHz, but maximum insertion loss is 5.6 dB and 3.5 dB and consumes a large area.…”

“…Power dividers based on PIN diodes offer reconfigurability. However, linearity and leakage currents are the limiting factors [15,16]. Reconfigurable power dividers can be used in various applications, such as multiband communication systems, where the operating frequency range must be switched between different frequencies.…”

“…However, the design process is also very complex. In addition, for the design of a power divider, the PIN diode can be used to achieve reconfigurability properties [24], [25]. Therefore, this work proposes the design and simulation of a modified reconfigurable WPD for WiMAX standards, at 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz.…”
