Reducing Environmental Impact on SME Metals Production Process Using Life Cycle Assessment and Analytical Hierarchy Process Method

Abstract: The ABC metal SME produces some wastes, such as liquid waste, solid waste, and smoke. The problem is hazardous waste dumped directly into the environment without any waste treatments which had bad impact on the environment around its SME. Therefore, this research is proposed to improve the production process of metal that can reduce the environmental impacts. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method is developed to identify all the processes that have an impact on the environment and also to calculate th… Show more

“…The results of the characterization, normalization, and weighting of environmental impact can be seen in Table 3. The results of the LCIA show that the environmental impact is significant in the climate change category, acidification, human toxicity, and ecotoxicity (freshwater); this result is in line with research results [26,27,28] , which also have been researched environment impact from the metal industry.…”

“…Every indicator has a unique weight and a unique size scale. As a result, normalization-a method of equating parameters-is required [25] [26]. Each indicator weight used in this measurement is transformed into a range of values, from 0 to 100.…”
