Abstract:Bridge abutments in river channels induce local scour. Recent research indicates that introducing roughness elements on the surface of the bridge abutments can influence the flow pattern around the abutment, reducing the intensity of eddies and diverting the flow away from the abutment. The roughness elements protruding from the abutment surface, with specific thickness, protrusion, and spacing, influence the scour process by enhancing turbulence. This study investigates the impact of roughness elements and th… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
