Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been the overwhelmingly prevalent choice for high‐data‐rate systems due to its superior advantages compared with other modulation techniques. In contrast, a high peak‐to‐average‐power ratio (PAPR) is considered the fundamental obstacle in OFDM systems since it drives the system to suffer from in‐band distortion and out‐of‐band radiation. The partial transmit sequence (PTS) technique is viewed as one of several strategies that have been suggested to diminish the high PAPR trend. The PTS relies upon dividing an input data sequence into a number of subblocks. Hence, three common types of the subblock segmentation methods have been adopted—interleaving (IL‐PTS), adjacent (Ad‐PTS), and pseudorandom (PR‐PTS). In this study, a new type of subblock division scheme is proposed to improve the PAPR reduction capacity with a low computational complexity. The results indicate that the proposed scheme can enhance the PAPR reduction performance better than the IL‐PTS and Ad‐PTS schemes. Additionally, the computational complexity of the proposed scheme is lower than that of the PR‐PTS and Ad‐PTS schemes.

Despite the fact that OFDM has numerous features, the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) deems one of the challenging disadvantages face by the system in the real applications. The high PAPR limits the OFDM signal efficiency on the transmitter side. Thus many PAPR alleviation approaches have been suggested in the past. Partial transmit sequences (PTS) has been accounted as one of the successful procedures for decreasing the high PAPR; with the consideration that the computational complexity of the PTS method regarded high relatively. Moreover, improving the PAPR mitigation performance of the PTS algorithm relies upon the number of the partitioned subblocks, the number of the phase rotation vectors, and the kind of the segmentation scheme utilized. This article presents new segmentation schemes to enhance the PAPR mitigation execution without further intricacy on the system. Adjacent shifting segmentation scheme (Ad-Sh-PTS) and rows exchange of interleaving segmentation schemes (IL-Ex-PTS) are proposed depending on the two well-known segmentation schemes of adjacent partition PTS (Ad-PTS) and interleaving partition PTS (IL-PTS). The simulation demonstrates that the suggested algorithms can accomplish mitigation in PAPR preferable compared to the traditional schemes, Ad-PTS and IL-PTS schemes.

Abstract-Although the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system (OFDM) is widely used in high-speed data rate wire and wireless environment, the peak-to-average-powerratio (PAPR) is one of its major obstacles for the real applications. The high PAPR value leads some devices of the OFDM system such as power amplifiers and analog to digital converters to work out of band of these devices. Thus the system efficiency is degraded. Many techniques have been proposed to overcome the high PAPR in OFDM systems such as partial transmit sequences (PTS), selected mapping and interleaving technique. PTS is considered as one of the effective PAPR reduction methods; this scheme depends on segmentation of the input data into several subblocks and then combined again. The three well-known segmentation schemes are pseudo-random, adjacent and interleaving; each scheme has PAPR reduction performance, and computational complexity differs from one to another. In this paper, five types of segmentation schemes are proposed to improve the PAPR reduction execution including sine and cosine shape as well as hybrid interleaving and adjacent schemes in new approaches. From the simulation results, the proposed methods can achieve PAPR reduction performance greater than that of the adjacent and interleaving partition schemes, without increasing the computational complexity of the system. Moreover, the enhanced schemes can realize better PAPR performance with any number of subcarriers.
