Reducing the risks of coronary heart disease

Abstract: Coronary heart disease (CHD) remains the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the UK (Lindsay et al, 1995). The Department of Health (2000) reports that 300000 people have heart attacks in Britain each year and more than 110000 people die from heart-related problems in England. Scotland and Northern Ireland continue to lead the world with the highest rates of CHD (British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group, 2002).
