Regulatory framework on the UAM operational concepts of the ASSURED-UAM project

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the overall framework in which the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) deployment is expected to be implemented. Another aim of the study is to give a better overview on the current regulations and standards including the impact of the regulations on the industry, operations and cities. Design/methodology/approach This paper performs a literature review on the regulatory framework, which provides a clear view of the current regulations and standards. The review includes the… Show more

“…Nevertheless, this conclusion applies to all electrified modes (e.g. cars); therefore, the cost cutting needs to be applied with regard to initial and continuous airworthiness processes (Mazur et al , 2022) without compromising safety. Safety and reliability improvement. EC aims the European aviation become a world safety leader (Dziugiel and Goraj, 2018).…”

“…In addition, the VLL airspace where drones are expected to operate is divided into three different parts (Mazur et al, 2022; U-Space Concept of Operations, 2020; EU 1058, 2020; Corus project, 2019) according to the services provided. The main difference between the three types of VLL airspace is that: in the X volume, no conflict resolution service is offered; in the Y volume, a pre-flight ("strategic") conflict resolution is offered; in the Z volume, pre-flight ("strategic") conflict resolution and in-flight ("tactical") conflict resolution are offered (EU, 947, 2019).…”

“…In the work of Ebner and Koops (2022), the potential impact of Prognostics and Health Management for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells was demonstrated for the first time, with the focus being on aviation applications. Mazur et al (2022) investigated the overall framework in which the Urban Air Mobility deployment is expected to be implemented in the near future. Saccone et al (2022) presented the results of an Horizon 2020 programme, whose aim was the improvement of enabling technologies for the multidisciplinary design and development of a future and re-usable hypersonic, civil, airbreathing, hydrogen-propelled passenger aircraft for stratospheric flight with great care to the environmental impact.…”
