Relationship between Czech Parent and Child Pedometer-assessed Weekday and Weekend Physical Activity and Screen Time

“…Several studies in recent years have assessed the parent–child PA relationship using pedometers in both children and parents and all have observed significant findings with at least one parent [8, 1013]. For example, significant father-child and mother-child step relationships were observed in a slightly younger sample than ours (aged 4–7 years) in the Czech Republic, however the effect sizes were larger than in our sample [11].…”

“…Almost twice as many fathers had excessive ST at weekends, compared with weekdays. The same pattern of a significantly higher amount of weekend ST than on weekdays was observed also in 5- to 6-year-old English children and their parents [14], as well as in Czech families with children aged 9–12 years [57]. Intuitively, all members of families with preschool children spend more free time together and share more activities during weekend days than during weekdays.…”

“…While previous research has examined the association between weekdays/weekends parent-child PA [56] or parent-child ST [14], relatively few studies to date have examined the association between weekdays/weekends parent-child PA and ST at once [18, 57]. Especially evidence on preschool children is scarce [5].…”
