Relationship Between Myocardial Bridging and Coronary Arteriosclerosis

Abstract: The objective of the study was to explore the prevalence and characteristics of myocardial bridging in patients who underwent coronary angiography and to also evaluate the correlation between bridged coronary segments and atherosclerosis. For this purpose, clinical materials of 1,500 patients who had received coronary angiography were retrospectively analyzed. The location and length of the myocardial bridge were recorded as well as the extent and location of coronary artery stenosis was described. Segments pr… Show more

“…Due to its close anatomical proximity to the coronary arteries, EAT may exert its effect through a paracrine or vasoactive manner. The hypothesis of EAT contributing to the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis was strengthened by the observations of coronary segments tunneling within the myocardium that were free of atherosclerotic disease [26,27]. These tunneled arteries are thought to be spared from CAD due to the overlying layer of muscle fibers separating them from the surrounding adipose tissue.…”

“…CAD is one of the most common types of heart disease, exhibiting increasing morbidity and mortality rates. CAD may reduce the quality of life of the patients and is an important socioeconomic problem ( 1 , 2 ). The mechanism of CAD progression is complicated; thus, it is important to investigate the disease mechanism, in addition to exploring different methods for CAD diagnosis and treatment.…”

“…Coronary artery disease (CAD), also termed coronary arteriosclerosis, is one of the most common types of heart disease ( 1 ). Morbidity and mortality of CAD has increased in recent years, reducing the quality of life of patients and continuing to present an important socioeconomic problem ( 2 ).…”

“…Информация о частоте встречаемости ММ представлена во многих публикациях. Проведенный анализ литературы установил, что этот показатель варьирует в очень широком диапазоне: от 0,99% [11] до 11,9% [23] по данным коронароангиограмм и от 13,54% [25] до 90,4% [13] по результатам изучения анатомического материала. Разрозненны и во многом противоречивы данные о существовании зависимости между количеством, размерами и положением ММ, формой сердца и типом его кровоснабжения.…”
