The classic approach to active acoustics systems, regardless of an inline, regenerative or hybrid operating principle, is to change typical acoustic parameters such as EDT, RT60 or C80. Those alterations are achieved by designing a number of feedback loops between microphones and loudspeakers or by convolving the microphone signals with a specifically designed or measured impulse response. While these strategies can achieve the desired measurement results, they neglect the three-dimensional nature of the actual auditorium and alter the audible perception of the acoustic geometry present. In a great concert hall it is not just a matter of how much absorption, reflection or diffusion is used to achieve certain acoustic goals, but also of their spatial relationships with the audience. For example, "reverberant bubbles" in front of a listener create a lack of intimacy or clarity while behind a listener they help achieve the desired spaciousness. This paper evaluates strategies to influence the audible perception of acoustic geometry by means of active acoustics. In a 50-squaremeter test lab, 36 speakers and 12 microphones are evenly distributed to create a number of acoustic settings with different spatial characteristics. To evaluate the settings, standard measurements are made according to ISO 3382 and extended to 3D space using higher-order Ambisonics. In addition a survey is conducted by a test group of musicians, tonmeisters and acousticians.

Sound distribution and background noise, is an important aspect in the making of study-purposed room. Properly distributed sound would ensure everyone in the room to hear the same quality of sound. Good sound quality is defined as a sound that did not diminish its character (sound intensity and sound clarity) significantly to its sound source. In this research, has been fabricated an in-room sound distribution measuring instrument, based on the Arduino microcontroller that equipped with nRF24L01 to be wirelessly functionated. The fabricated measuring instrument consist of 4 transmitter devices and 2 receiver devices. The transmitter devices is an Arduino Pro Mini microcontroller that equipped with nRF24L01 and a sound sensor. The receiver devices is an Arduino Nano microcontroller equipped with nRF24L01, that connected to a PC, and an Arduino Pro Mini microcontroller equipped with nRF24L01 that connected to a speaker. The fabricated measuring instrument equipped with a Python 2.7-based acquisition software to acquire data in real time and store it in CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. Test was carried out to the transmitter devices that equipped with a sound sensor and the receiver device that connected to a speaker. The transmitter devices was compared with a standard sound level meter, and showed 0,65% - 1,24% of error percentage. The test made to receiver device showed that sound intensity of 100 dB could only be achieved with frequency of 2000 Hz and 3000 Hz. On the measurement of sound distribution, the primary data of Einstein Hall sound distribution has been obtained, with 16 sound level measuring point, 7 variations of sound source position, and 5 variations of sound source frequency.The background noise measurement of Einstein Hall of the FMIPA ULM, showed the value varied between 57 dB – 60,56 dB.

Nurses do not always have visual access to their patients in hospital corridors. During these times, lack of proper monitoring of auditory cues can potentially delay nurse response time and disable early detection of complications. Particular acoustic characteristics of hospital sound environments such as reverberation time can be highly detrimental to nurses' sound-based task performance. In previous studies, the effects of surface materials on temporal characteristics of reverberant corridor sound environments have been studied. However, little is known about the relationship between floor-plate shapes and temporal characteristics of reverberant corridor sound environments. The main goal of this study was to statistically examine the relationship between floor-plate shape and temporal characteristics of reverberant sound environments in inter-connected nursing unit corridors by conducting floor-plate shape analysis, acoustic simulation studies and field measurements. Overall, the findings suggest the potential effectiveness of acoustic simulation programs in predicting the temporal characteristics of reverberant sound environments in inter-connected hospital corridors. Based on the acoustic simulation analysis, reverberation time was significantly correlated with two floor-plate shape metrics: visual fragmentation and relative grid distance.
