Relationships between magnetic and structural fabrics revealed by Variscan basement rocks subjected to heterogeneous deformation—a case study from the Kłodzko Metamorphic Complex, Central Sudetes, Poland

Abstract: The Ktodzko Metamorphic Complex comprises a number of thrust units, consisting of meta-igneous and metasedimentary rocks of the Variscan basement of the Sudetes, NE Bohemian Massif. The thrust sheet stack rests upon unmetamorphosed Nowa Ruda ophiolite and is unconformably overlain by Frasnian-Fammenian sediments. The studied rocks underwent six deformation events, scattered in time between the Middle Devonian and Late Carboniferous. The multiphase deformation produced a steep foliation that consistently trends… Show more

“…The LSBC was formed in an upper-Devonian crypto-volcanic caldera where limnetic Carboniferous sedimentation has taken place [40]. The following geological units are identified here: the Wolibórz Syncline, the Czerwieńczyce Graben, the Nowa Ruda-Bożkowa gabbro-diabase Massif, the Nowa Ruda Syncline (with the southernmost part called the Słupiec Basin), theŚcinawka Uplift [41][42][43].…”

“…1993a, b) and hysteresis studies of tektites (Werner and Borradaile 1998). After returning to Poland he focused on the applicability of methods of magnetic fabrics (AMS, AARM) for tectonic problems for the Sudetes (Jeleńska et al 1996;Werner 1997;Jeleńska and Werner 1997;Jeleńska et al 2000;Jeleńska et al 2002a, b;Kądziałko-Hofmokl et al 2004;Werner and Białek 2004). The problems of anisotropy served as a basis of his dissertation performed under supervision of M. Jeleńska (Werner 2002).…”

“…A primary fabric later affected by a strong compression event and resulting in a tectonic foliation, a flexural folding, shearing (i.e., thrust related) and/or flattening, may become partially (composite fabric) (Debacker et al, 2004) or totally (new compressive fabric) overprinted (Mamtani et al, 1999;Kadzialko-Hofmokl et al, 2004;Anderson and Morris, 2004;Mukherji et al, 2004;Mamtani and Sengupta, 2010). The imprint of these different tectonic events on the fabric can be studied using AMS data.…”
