In response to growing health and productivity problems resulting from employees' lack of work-life balance, many organizations are taking serious steps to reduce conflict in their employees' work and family roles (Fapohunda, 2014; Working Families, 2017). This has led to increasing researchers' and managers' interest in this area of study. Organizations not permitting work-life flexibility tend to negatively impact their employees' job performance, whereas enhancing work-life balance may benefit both employees and organizations (Kelly et al., 2014). A recently published report in Forbes (an American business magazine) suggests that work-life balance matters much for higher creativity, productivity, and performance (Kruse, 2017). A variety of studies have delineated a strong relationship between work-life balance and employee job performance (Kim, 2014; Smith, Smith, & Brower, 2016). Despite researchers' growing interest in examining the relationship between work-life balance and employee job performance, little work has described the mechanisms which explain this relationship. Lean on Me: A Scoping Review of the Essence of Workplace Support Among Child Welfare Workers

Child welfare workers (CWWs) often work under conditions similar in nature to workers within safety critical organizations (SCOs). This is because most of their work surrounds child neglect, securing homes for foster children, haphazard, and intricate cases, among other things, and where making wrong decisions, inattention to details, and the likes could lead to adverse consequences especially for the kids within their care. Research has shown that employees who experience support at work often report less stress symptoms, burnout, and a host of other negative workplace experiences. Experience of support at work has also been found to boost employees' retention, job satisfaction, and productivity. Despite this development, research exploring the essence of workplace support among CWW is very scarce in the literature, and we know very little about the type of workplace support and their influence on a host of workplace outcomes, especially the negative ones like secondary traumatic stress, aggression, and violence toward CWWs. The purpose of the current scoping review was to uncover what is known about workplace support and their relationship with workplace outcomes among CWWs. The authors explored four databases and identified 55 primary studies investigating workplace support and workplace outcomes among CWWs in the review. Studies mostly framed support under three main support types of coworker/peer support, social/organizational/management support, and supervisor/leadership support. Findings showed that workplace support has a positive impact on workplace variables like job satisfaction, engagement, commitment, and reduces the risk of turnover, burnout, and other negative workplace variables. The review highlights possible directions for future research.

RESUMORecentemente, work-life balance tem sido foco de debates que visam abordar sobre a integração entre os diferentes domínios trabalho e família. As discussões procuram reduzir os conflitos de papéis inerentes a estas esferas. Em determinadas profissões, decorrente do trabalho intenso, observa-se a intensificação dos conflitos de papéis. Isto posto, constata-se que a profissão contábil apresenta demandas específicas em determinados períodos, logo, o profissional fica sobrecarregado de tarefas e necessita gerir adequadamente seu tempo. Dessa forma, o estudo objetiva identificar quais são os fatores que explicam a percepção de contadores paranaenses quanto ao seu work-life balance e a gestão de tempo. Por meio de survey online, a partir do instrumento de pesquisa adaptado do estudo de Wong e Ko (2009), 267 contadores registrados no estado do Paraná responderam ao questionário. Para analisar os dados, utilizou-se estatística descritiva e análise fatorial. A partir da técnica de análise fatorial, foram três os fatores identificados como explicativos de work-life balance: (1) apoio no trabalho; (2) comprometimento com o trabalho; e (3) comprometimento com a família e aspectos pessoais. Além dos três fatores de work-life balance identificados, considerou-se a gestão de tempo. Os resultados da presente pesquisa estão alinhados aos achados de Wong e Ko (2009). Como contribuição científica, este estudo possibilita discussões relevantes sobre aspectos relacionados a qualidade de vida e a performance dos profissionais contábeis.Palavras-chave: fatores explicativos; work-life balance; gestão de tempo; contadores paranaenses. This fact shows that the accounting profession presents specific demands in certain periods, so the professional is overwhelmed with tasks and needs to manage his time properly.
