Reliability and validity of systemic lupus activity measure-revised (SLAM-R) for measuring clinical disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract: New clinical scales for semiquantitating disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are widely used in research. They are reliable and valid measures. One of the original scales, the Systemic Lupus Activity Measure (SLAM), has been modified based on experience with it in multi-observer studies and training of individuals in its use. We tested the psychometric properties of the revised SLAM (SLAM-R). SLAM-R was tested on 30 SLE patients, who fulfilled 1997 revised ACR criteria and were selected to r… Show more

“…In addition, the SLAQ contains a single item 0-10 rating scale for lupus activity and a rating scale for lupus flare (no flare, mild flare, moderate flare, severe flare). The SLAQ is a patient reported version of the physician-reported Systemic Lupus Activity Measure (SLAM) (25). However, the SLAQ is a new questionnaire and has only been reported on twice (23)(24).…”

“…Moreover, the proposed ACR threshold for proteinuria (0.5 g/day) required reflecting clinically significant LN differs in lupus disease activity indices [19]. For instance, SLEDAI-2K [15] and European Consensus Lupus Activity Measurement index (ECLAM) [40] include proteinuria as a renal disease activity marker with a 24H-P > 0.5 g/day. In BILAG-2004, the proteinuria is graded differently based on its amount (A [active disease] = > 1.0 g/day; B [beware] = > 0.5 g/day, C [contentment] = > 0.25 g/day) and it can be obtained from a 24H-P or a PCR [41].…”
