Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (New BJSQ) among workers in China

Abstract: This study aimed to develop the Chinese version of the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (New BJSQ) and investigate its reliability and validity. The survey was administered at two time-points separated by a two-week interval among Chinese workers. The Chinese version of the New BJSQ was developed according to the international guidelines. Cronbach’s alpha, intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs), and Pearson correlation coefficient were calculated to assess the reliability. A variance explained by the fi… Show more

“…The BJSQ was used to evaluate occupational stress status in the workplace. Its reliability and validity were tested ( 16 ). The tool is a 57-item multidimensional job stress questionnaire that uses four Likert scale response options (ranging from “strongly agree” = 4 to “strongly disagree” = 1) to measure three sub-dimensions, including “job stressors,” “stress response,” and “social support.” The sub-dimension of “job stressors” adds “social support” as a new sub-dimension named “job stressors & social support.”…”

“…No conceptual and contextual differences from original Japanese version were found. The reliability and validity of the BJSQ was previously confirmed for Japanese workers 12,13) , and this scale has been used in international contexts 14,15) .…”

“…Higher score indicated lower levels of job stress. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan provided the Chinese version of BJSQ for this study (Hidaka et al, 2021). In this study, Cronbach's alpha of BJSQ Chinese version was 0.888.…”
