Reliability and Validity of the Balancia using Wii Balance Board for Assessment of Balance with Stroke Patients

Abstract: Balance is the foundation for all active daily livings. Evaluation of balance has been conducted to measure postural sway of center of pressure(COP). The purpose of this study is to introduce the Balancia and to examine the validity and inter-, intra-reliability for measure of balance with stroke patients. COP was measured by Wii balance board. The subjects Participated in this study were 39 stroke patients. Intra-and inter-reliability was examined using intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) with 95% confide… Show more

“…In addition, all data were extracted by sampling at 50 Hz using a 10-Hz low-pass filter. 21 The test-retest reliability of the Balancia for stroke patients showed a high degree of reliability, ICC = 0.79 to 0.93. 21 Information on COP was measured using a Wii-fit balance board, and the following parameters were acquired: moving distance, maximum distance, and path length of COP about the x axis (lateral position [LP]), y axis (anteroposterior position [APP]).…”

“…The Wii-fit balance board, a commercially available device for measurement of balance, was the input apparatus of the home-use game machine in a rectangular shape the size of 50 Â 50 cm. 16,21 The Wii-fit balance board for normal subjects had high test-retest reliability: intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) = 0.66 to 0.94. 22 Likewise, the BESS position, 3 different stances (double-leg, single-leg, and tandem stances), was tested twice on the Wii-fit balance board (Fig.…”

“…In this study, data on COP velocity average (cm/s), COP path length (cm), the medial lateral (ML) distance (cm), AP distance (cm), ML range (cm), and AP range (cm) were all collected and measured. All data was sampled at 100 Hz and performed at a 10 Hz low-pass filter [18]. The collected data was analyzed with the Balancia program (Mintosys, Seoul, Korea).…”

“…In this study, the COP movement distance of medial-lateral (ML) and anterior-posterior (AP) axes (cm), sway mean velocity (cm/s) and sway area 95% (cm 2 ) were all collected and measured, and all data were sampled is at 100 Hz, and performed at 10 Hz low-pass filter. COP measurements was 30 seconds when measured once measured, the collected data was analyzed with the Valencia program (Mintosys, Seoul, Korea), after measuring the average value of 3 trials [23].…”
