Reliability assessment in active distribution networks with detailed effects of PV systems

Abstract: With the increased integration of photovoltaic (PV) power generation into active distribution networks, the operational challenges and their complexities are increased. Such networks need detailed characterization PV systems under multiple operating conditions to understand true impacts. This paper presents a new mathematical model for a PV system to capture detailed effects of PV systems. The proposed model incorporates state transitions of components in a PV system and captures effects of insolation variatio… Show more

“…In addition, DGs with renewable energy technology can effectively reduce system line loss and transmission congestion [3][4][5]. Despite the above advantages, if the placement and sizing of the DGs are improperly selected, it may cause a series of power system safety hazards such as power flow reverse, insufficient voltage stability, and malfunction of the protection device [6,7]. Therefore, the placement and sizing of the DGs has become one of the important subject.…”

“…A micro-grid is a cluster of distributed generators and loads operating under different conditions [5]. The distribution networks, which are connected with embedded generators and active controls, are termed as an active distribution network (ADN) [6]. ADN is a new applicable way to change the traditional grid operation of radial distribution mode.…”

“…Compared with traditional distribution system planning [3][4][5][6][7], ADS planning must take effects of DER into consideration, including the variation of power flow [8], node voltage [9,10], even power reliability [11] and steady-state security [12] of the distribution network. The research on ADS planning integrated with the planning of DG has drew lots of researchers' attention since years ago.…”
