Reliability of internal logistics distribution in a hospital

Abstract: PurposeThe main objective of the research is to propose a method to assess the reliability of hospitals' internal logistics distribution.Design/methodology/approachA structured methodology was defined in five stages: (1) data collection and current state mapping; (2) future state design; (3) identification of the uncertainties and sources of variation; (4) reliability analysis of the proposed future state and (5) identification and prioritization of improvements.FindingsResults show shortcomings of the future … Show more

“…Current competition requires that an organization should have faster and customized deliveries with lower costs, which affect logistics (Davarzani and Norrman, 2015; Correa et al , 2020). In the past decades, management of the distribution network has been a popular research topic in operations management, being an important component in supply chain management (Perez Loaiza et al , 2017; Saranwong and Likasiri, 2017; Tortorella et al , 2020). The implementation of distribution center (DC) in the distribution network arises from the need to obtain a more efficient, flexible and dynamic distribution (Ambrosino and Scutella, 2005; Choy et al , 2012; De Santis et al , 2018).…”

“…Each contextual characteristic was dichotomized into two levels, and decisions were compared between these levels. A similar approach was used by Netland (2016) and Tortorella et al (2020), who examined the effect of organizations’ contextual variables (i.e. contingencies) on the implementation of Lean Production and Healthcare 4.0 technologies, respectively.…”
