Objectives: To translate the Glasgow Children's Benefit Inventory (GCBI) questionnaire into Arabic language and assess its validity and reliability in scoring the benefit of patients after cochlear implantation in children. Methods: A cross-sectional study for a group of consecutive pediatric patients who underwent cochlear implantation between November 2018 and February 2020. The GCBI original questionnaire was translated into Arabic language and translated back to English by 2 different experts. The patients/parents were asked to complete the questionnaire given to them. Results: Seventy children were included in the study. The age at implantation ranged from 7 months to 13 years with a mean of 3.4 years (SD=2.3 years). The mean GCBI score was 52.2 (SD=24.0) ranging from-6.25 to 100.00. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was high (Cronbach's α=0.9). The 4-factor dimensions explained 55.1% of the variance. Conclusion: The GCBI questionnaire (Arabic version) is reliable tool to evaluate retrospectively the quality of life after an intervention in pediatric age for Arabic speaking population.

Objective: The Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) is a healthrelated quality of life instrument used to detect changes in health status following otolaryngologic interventions. Despite its use in cochlear implant literature, assessment of utility, reliability, and validity of GBI in an adult cochlear implants (CI) patient population has yet to be performed. Study Design: Retrospective case series. Setting: Academic, tertiary referral center. Patients: Postlingually deafened, adult CI patients with at least 1 year of device use. Interventions: Five hundred fifty-two patients were administered GBI questionnaires at least 1 year following CI activation during follow-up visits. Main Outcome Measures: GBI total and subscale scoring were compared to either the Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults or Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly. Moreover, a factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha were performed to determine GBI validity and internal reliability, respectively. Results:The average overall GBI score was 38.6 AE 21.7. This was weakly correlated to the reduction in Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults/Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly (t b ¼ 0.282, p < 0.05). High factor loading with minimal cross-loading was noted on a three-factor solution, which emulated the original GBI development. Internal reliability was acceptable for the general benefit (a ¼ 0.913) and social support subclasses (a ¼ 0.706), whereas physical health's was low (a ¼ 0.643). Conclusions: Although GBI possesses adequate convergent and discriminant validity with acceptable reliability, its routine use to capture CI-specific health-related changes should not supersede validated CI-specific QoL instruments.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the psychometric properties of the Swedish version of the Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI).MethodsA prospective multicenter cohort study was conducted. A total of 123 otosclerosis subjects were included in the study. The subjects were divided in three groups based on the following interventions: (a) stapedotomy without any prior hearing‐aid rehabilitation (n = 60); (b) hearing‐aid rehabilitation without any prior stapedotomy (n = 33); and (c) stapedotomy with prior hearing‐aid rehabilitation (n = 30). Pre‐ and post‐operative pure tone audiometry were measured. The Swedish version of the GBI was completed by the subjects 6 months after the intervention. Test‐retest reliability and internal consistency, factor analysis, construct validity, and criterion validity, was assessed.ResultsThe Swedish version of the GBI was well accepted by the subjects. It showed good psychometric properties with an overall high reliability. Factor analysis resulted in a 5‐factor solution explaining 66.6% of the variance where factors 1 and 2 represented the general health domain.ConclusionsOverall, the Swedish version of the GBI showed good psychometric properties. Based on the factor analyses, there is the possibility that the general health domain should be divided in two separate domains: general health and psychosocial health.Level of Evidence2c.
