Renewable energy sources-integrated refurbishment approach for low-rise residential prefabricated building in Belgrade, Serbia

Abstract: The refurbishment of the existing housing stock has a twofold aim: to decrease consumption of fossil fuels and to reduce the CO2 emissions. The main focus of the presented paper is the evaluation of the integrated design approach applied in scenarios for refurbishment of the prefabricated residential multi-apartment building. The criteria used in searching for the best approach to the RES integrated refurbishment were minimized energy loads, minimized CO2 emissions and improved indoor environment quality, heal… Show more

“…(1) Low carbon design standards are needed to provide constraints in the conceptual design phase, such as renewable energy utilization [31][32][33] and local meteorological conditions [34,35]. The local climate type, dominant wind direction and speed, solar radiation, and other meteorological conditions should be taken into account, as well as local renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass energy.…”

“…PV technology used in buildings has proven to be an effective technological approach to reduce the carbon emissions of building operations. Integration of PV technology and other renewable energy technologies has an important role in providing a long-term energy supply with little emissions [34]. Moreover, there is a growing consensus that BIPV systems will be the backbone of the zero-energy building (ZEB) European target by 2020 [35].…”

“…However, the majority of existing buildings in used are old, not airtight and not energy efficient, and in order to substantially reduce energy demand, there is also a need to focus effort on refurbishment and upgrading of these buildings, including various tools for evaluating refurbishment options. 4355 For upgrading of existing buildings, there would be challenging demands within economic and technical feasibility to improve building envelope and to improve heating, ventilating and cooling operations in these buildings. 5659 Refurbishment of windows is of also a priority consideration to minimize heat loss.…”
