Reparative Mineralized Tissue Characterization after Direct Pulp Capping with Calcium-Silicate-Based Cements

Abstract: Nowadays, the preservation of dental pulp vitality is an integral part of our daily therapies. The success of these treatments depends on the clinical situation as well as the biomaterials used. Mineral Trioxide aggregate and BiodentineTM are commonly used as pulp capping materials. One objective of vital pulp therapy is the repair/regeneration of the pulp. In addition to the initial inflammatory status of the pulp, the nature and quality of the new mineralized tissue obtained after pulp capping directly influ… Show more

“…Calcium hydroxide is not completely accepted as a pulp capping material due to its unpredictable results, towing to the poor quality of dentin bridges and the low sealing to dentine walls [11,14,15]. On the other hand, MTA has superior clinical performance for its ability to induce the formation of a regular dense mineralized tissue.…”

“…On the other hand, MTA has superior clinical performance for its ability to induce the formation of a regular dense mineralized tissue. The chemical composition of dentin bridges after pulp capping with MTA is similar to primary dentin [14]; however, it has some disadvantages such as a long setting time, poor handling properties, high material costs, and discoloration of dental tissue [16].…”

“…While cell and molecular signalings involved in the migration of dental pulp progenitor cells during natural reparative dentinogenesis are not fully understood, recent studies focused on strategies mimicking these natural phenomena [53][54][55][56][57]. Similar to well-known hematopoietic stem cell transplantation procedure, it has faced many difficulties in developing regenerative approaches.…”

“…O Biodentine está associado a um alto pH (12) e à liberação de íons cálcio e silício, o que estimula a mineralização e cria uma "zona de infiltração mineral" ao longo da sua interface com a dentina, proporcionando uma melhor vedação. Caron et al 2014 (Awawdeh et al, 2018;Mahmoud et al, 2018;Tran et al, 2019).…”
