Since the 1990s, the concept of "recovery in/from serious mental health problems" has been iterated internationally as the new paradigm in mental health policy and practice.A constitutive element of recovery discourse is a struggle over what defines a "good" life-in-time, yet temporalities of recovery remain under-investigated. This paper offers an empirical exploration of recovery enacted in an NHS "arts for mental health" service called Create. I present an analysis of several intersecting temporalities at play withinCreate through the lens of one service-user's story. The temporal orderings of the situated aesthetic care practices at Create encapsulate competing articulations of recovery, hope, and aspiration. These different temporalities enact different subjectivities, revealing recovery to be a set of socio-political struggles over what lives are deemed liveable in the context of global neoliberal capitalism.

Disability activism in the new media ecology: Campaigning strategies in the digital era.Key words: disability activism, Internet, new media ecology, Paralympics, welfare reform, austerity. AbstractThis article examines the changing nature of disability activism through the influence of social media. As disabled people in the UK have been subjected to acute austerity, this has coincided with a new era of disability activism channelled through increased social media participation. Drawing on the analysis of one group's online activities and a qualitative content analysis of disability protest coverage in traditional news media during the 2012 Paralympic Games, this article positions this shift in the broader framework of 'new media ecology ' (Hoskins and O'Loughlin, 2010). We explore how emerging structures of disability activism have begun to offer a more visible profile to challenge government policy and negative stereotypes of disabled people. This highlights the usefulness of campaigning strategies for generating favourable news coverage for disability protest.

A growing body of literature links claimant interactions with the UK social security system and negative psychological consequences. Psychologists for social change developed a framework to outline proposed mechanisms of psychological impact from austerity. This codesigned study aimed to make an informed comment on areas of dis(agreement) between the Austerity Ailments framework and how people claiming for mental health problems describe their own experiences. In line with the participatory social welfare design of the study, qualitative analysis was performed by both claimants and academics. The overall findings indicate that existing framework mostly captured claimant experiences. However, some aspects of the claimant experience (particularly social aspects) were not well captured. Claimants were keen to utilise this study as an opportunity to gather claimant ideas on how to improve the system. Therefore, we report their suggestions that may be useful for those designing and improving social welfare systems
