Resumo: O desenvolvimento lexical está diretamente relacionado com a capacidade de compreender e produzir vários tipos de significados. Quando se deseja representar um objeto, um atributo ou qualquer outro tipo de informação, o léxico mental é acessado. Para que este desenvolvimento seja adequado faz-se necessário o processo de aprendizagem de palavras e que ocorra a associação entre elas. Esse estudo tem como objetivo analisar e compilar achados acerca das relações entre desenvolvimento lexical, desvio fonológico, consciência fonológica, desempenho escolar e processamento auditivo por meio de revisão de literatura. As produções científicas encontradas apontam a relevância do desenvolvimento lexical para a aquisição fonológica e posteriormente para a aquisição da linguagem escrita. Quanto à fonologia, os artigos encontrados expõem a importância do adequado desenvolvimento lexical para que a aquisição fonológica se dê efetivamente.

Analysing language characteristics and understanding their dynamics is the key for a successful intervention by speech and language therapists (SLT). Thus, this review aims to investigate a possible overlap in language development shared by autism spectrum disorders (ASD), specific language impairment (SLI) and social (pragmatic) communication disorder (SPCD). The sources of this work were the PubMed, PsycInfo and SciELO databases, as well as the Scientific Open Access Repositories of Portugal. The final selection included 18 studies, focused on several linguistic areas. Results suggest that when individuals are matched according to some language or cognitive skills, they will also show similar characteristics in other language domains. Future work should be done based on spontaneous speech.

Connective processing by bilingual children and monolinguals with specific language impairment: distinct profiles

Production studies show that both Russian-speaking children with specific language impairment (SLI) and bilingual children for whom Russian is a non-dominant language have difficulty distinguishing between the near-synonymous connectives i 'and' and a 'and/but'. I is a preferred connective when reference is maintained, whereas a is normally used for reference shift. We report an eye-tracking experiment comparing connective processing by Russian-speaking monolinguals with typical language development (TLD) with that of Russian-Dutch bilinguals and Russian-speaking monolinguals with SLI (age 5-6). The results demonstrate that the processing profiles of monolinguals with TLD and bilinguals are similar: both groups use connective semantics immediately for predicting further discourse. In contrast, children with SLI do not show sensitivity to these semantic differences. Despite similar production profiles, bilinguals and monolinguals with SLI are clearly different in connective processing. We discuss the implications of these results for the possible causes of the errors in the two populations.
