The feminist movement in America is experiencing rapid development. The early feminist idea about woman's right to vote has developed on other issues, including sexuality and reproductive rights, ideas about universal femininity, the body, gender, and heteronormativity. In its development, feminism is sometimes associated with lesbianism. This linkage occurs because lesbian and feminist criticism grow in response to patriarchal oppression. Raised as an orphan, the two main female characters in Riding Freedom struggle to survive and achieve their freedom and happiness. Charlotte in Riding Freedom obscures her feminist identity to get equal opportunities with men. Susan in Fingersmith fights for her rights, even though she engages in lesbianism. By using these two novels as primary data, and data on the development of feminism in America as secondary data, this study aims to show the evolution of feminism in America, starting from the issue of voting described in The Riding Freedom, to the issue of lesbianism in Fingersmith's novel as the effect of disappointment from man's oppression. Feminist criticism and lesbian criticism are the two theories used in this research. This study finds that American women's struggle to gain equality with men requires a long process. The trauma of men's oppression supports the practice of lesbianism in America.

The research is entitled Imagery Analysis in Matsuoka’s Cloud of Sparrows. This study aims to reveal how imagery described through the dialogues and narratives of Cloud of Sparrows written by Takashi Matsuoka, by applying Perrine and Thomas’ theory regarding the seven types of imagery in literature. The analysis uses the dialogues of the characters and narrations included in the novel as its main data of study, then finding the contextual similarity to Perrine and Thomas’ imagery in literature. This research uses descriptive qualitative method as the study attempts to identify and describe its types of imagery in accordance Perrine and Thomas’ imagery. The result of the study shows that the narrative within Matsuoka’s Cloud of Sparrows contains all of Perrine and Thomas’ seven types of imagery; starting from visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, kinesthetic, and organic imagery. This study aims to examine the way both BBC News and The Jakarta Post representing the news about Reynhard Sinaga using the theory from Van Leeuwen. This research implemented a descriptive qualitative method as it is more suitable to analyze the data. The data are in the form of words. The data were gathered from BBC News and The Jakarta Post online versions about Reynhad Sinaga rape case. The findings revealed that both media use the inclusion strategy to decide which information chosen as their base references to represent Reynhard Sinaga. This suggests that BBC UK tends to use inclusion strategy to quote statement from different parties about Reynhard Sinaga and to inform the readers about how severe his sexual assaults' cases are. Meanwhile, The Jakarta Post tends to use inclusion strategy to compare Indonesian media news in publishing his case and to give clear depiction about the difference between Reynhard Sinaga's case to other heterosexual's crime cases. Further, this research could be used as an overview for the readers about the type of strategy used by certain journalists who represent certain person, case, or an ideology through the arrangement of words that are used in text.Keywords: CDA, representation, reynhard sinaga, van leeuwen
