Abstract:Based on the expression patterns, genomes are viewed as a collection of protein-coding, RNA-coding, and non-expressing DNA sequences. Unlike most prokaryotes, eukaryotic gene expression comes with an additional step called alternative splicing. During the maturation process, different combinations of exons are spliced out and joined together resulting in the formation of mRNA isoforms. After removal from pre-mRNA, introns may be degraded by cellular exonucleases or form long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), or tempo… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
