Research Advances on Hydrogel-Based Materials for Tissue Regeneration and Remineralization in Tooth

Abstract: Tissue regeneration and remineralization in teeth is a long-term and complex biological process, including the regeneration of pulp and periodontal tissue, and re-mineralization of dentin, cementum and enamel. Suitable materials are needed to provide cell scaffolds, drug carriers or mineralization in this environment. These materials need to regulate the unique odontogenesis process. Hydrogel-based materials are considered good scaffolds for pulp and periodontal tissue repair in the field of tissue engineering… Show more

“…This unique structure provides hydrogels with flexibility, enabling them to mimic the body’s tissue environment. They offer structural support to the defect site, facilitating repair of bone defects through intrinsic healing mechanisms ( Li et al, 2022b ; Ho et al, 2022 ; Zhang et al, 2023 ). The high water content of hydrogels, similar to the permeability of the extracellular matrix, facilitates the transport of oxygen and nutrients ( Siddiqui et al, 2021 ).…”

“…The prevalence of oral diseases is a growing concern globally, affecting both developed and developing nations. Typically, oral conditions encompass issues such as dental caries, pulp necrosis, periodontitis, tooth mineralization, and more [ 12 ]. This research aims to develop a hydrogel with enhanced antioxidant capabilities using seagrass extract, therefore incorporating natural compounds into advanced biomaterials designed for dental applications.…”
