Research challenges in Measurement for Internet of Things systems

Abstract: In this paper, an overview of the research challenges in measurements for the design of Internet of Things (IoT) systems is proposed. To this end, a general architecture of an IoT system is presented, which is specialized according to two key requirements: the power supply capabilities of the infrastructure and the time delay constraints of the application. Guidelines for the design of an IoT system are summarized, and the measurement needs are highlighted. A review of the research contributions is given conce… Show more

“…These can communicate with each other as well as with users through smart sensors and software that transmit data through a given network [1], [2]. It essentially presents an emergent paradigm as it comprises hardware infrastructure, software, and services that enable physical objects, known as 'things', to be connected to the Internet [3], [4].…”

“…In fact, PA is a management concept based on observing, measuring and responding to intra-field variability in crops through the use of technology. PATs allow farmers to recognise variations in the fields and to apply variable-rate treatments with a greater degree of precision than before [15]- [16]. The management of PA can be divided into four phases ( Figure 2):…”

“…Based on these measurements, a binding uniform methodology for the diagnostics of a wooden house sandwich structure system could be proposed and unite the methodology in order to save on construction costs and increase the indoor environment quality for the inhabitants. In the future, the system can be used for commercial use in order to monitor and diagnose any wooden structure or for it to be extended to be compatible with IoT [20]. Based on the measurement, the ventilation, heating, or cooling systems can be controlled.…”
