“…We draw from conservation of resources theory (Hobfoll, 1989) and attribution theory of achievement and Meaning and willingness to pay motivation (Weiner, 1985) and identify a boundary condition for the commonly held expectation that effort generally increases favorable valuation. We particularly show that the moderating role of expectation disconfirmation (Oliver, 1977) in the relationship between effort and valuation is of significant importance (Jiao et al, 2020;Lee and Kim, 2020;Zhigang et al, 2020;Pang et al, 2020).
