Research Progress on lncRNA Functions and Mechanisms in Pituitary Adenomas

Abstract: Despite being the most common human neuroendocrine tumor, the pathogenesis of pituitary adenomas (PAs) is still unclear. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, and has been shown to play a key role in the process of tumor instigation and development by affecting the proliferation, migration, invasiveness, and metastasis of tumor cells. Therefore, lncRNAs may be used as diagnostic and prognostic markers of tumors. In this paper, the effect of lncRNA on… Show more

“…Given the importance of lncRNAs in modulating epigenetic processes, the dysregulation of lncRNAs has been implicated in a variety of human diseases, including tumor 14 . Moreover, increasing evidence has confirmed the participation of lncRNAs in the proliferation, invasion, migration, glycolysis, and epithelial−mesenchymal transformation (EMT) during PA development 8,15 . Here we highlight recent findings concerning lncRNAs and their relevance to the pathogenesis of PA.…”

The aim is to provide a theoretical basis for developing diagnostic and prognostic tools with high specificity, classification criteria with high accuracy, and novel therapeutic strategies with high potency in the future.…”

“…The next step in our exploration involved investigating the potential role of lncRNAs in GH-secreting PitNETs development and progression [18,19]. Growing evidence suggests that these enigmatic molecules, while not directly coding for proteins, play crucial roles in regulating gene expression and in uencing various cellular processes in pituitary tumors [20,21].…”

“…At HMR, we have documented these advances extensively over the last few years in various endocrine tumors and their genetic associations and treatment, as well as their basic science and the latter’s clinical implications 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 . This issue is a magnificent addition to contemporary knowledge on endocrine oncology, one that even Marcus Aurelius would agree will not be swept away very soon.…”
