Research Progress on Postgrowth Annealing of Cd1−xMnxTe Crystals

Abstract: Cadmium manganese telluride (Cd1−xMnxTe, abbreviated CMT) crystals have high resistivity, wide bandgap and good carrier transport properties, as well as being superior to traditional CdZnTe crystals in some respects. Therefore, CMT crystals are promising materials for room‐temperature nuclear radiation detectors. However, as‐grown CMT crystals usually include many defects dominated by Te inclusions. These defects greatly affect the device performance. In this paper, main defects such as point defects, dislocat… Show more

“…This situation is likely due to the annealing process, which eliminates defects in the crystal, leading to a stable state. 22 The DSC curve shows that the exothermic peaks at 453.7 K are nearly identical in three consecutive cooling runs. However, the endothermic peak shifts slightly towards the higher temperature side, by about 5 K, in the third heating run.…”

“…20 The Ag–I bond lengths and the I–Ag–I bond angles (Tables S3 and S4†) are comparable to the corresponding values in the reported iodoargentate hybrids. 22,23 In 1 , the alternative linkage of two Ag2 and six Ag1 (where Ag1 has the site occupancy factor of 1/3) together with six I1 − ions gives rise to an isolated tetranuclear [Ag 4 I 6 ] 2− cluster, wherein shorter Ag⋯Ag distances (2.945–2.983 Å) suggest the presence of argentophilic interactions (Fig. 1b).…”

“…[15] Annealing at high temperatures and burying CZT powder on top of the crystals helps preserve their composition, Xu et al buried CZT powder in CZT crystals to protect the crystal components at high temperature and carried out Cd atmosphere annealing. [16] Because Te inclusion will affect the electric field [17] and electron mobility [18] of CZT detector, high temperature Cd atmosphere annealing becomes one of the more important means to remove Te inclusion. However, the loss of component on the surface of the crystal during annealing will seriously affect the performance of CZT detector.…”
