Residues of benomyl (determined as carbendazim) and captan in postharvest-treated pears in cold storage

Abstract: Residues of carbendazim (applied as benomyl) and captan, applied to pears prior to cold storage, were examined during 6 months of storage. Total carbendazim residues were below the 7 ppm tolerance, initial residues averaging 0.37 ppm, and no reduction of residues was detected during cold storage. In

“…Captan is one of the most important fungicides used to control apple scab, particularly when apple mildew is not severe, and is also widely used to control diseases in many other crops (Gilvydis et al 1986;Northover et al 1986;Elzemaity 1988). Many studies have been conducted to investigate captan residues on various crops in relation to physiological and physical factors in laboratory, storage and field conditions (Smith and MacHardy 1984;Frank et al 1985;1987;Elzemaity 1988;Kiigemagi et al 1991).…”

“…Captan [ N ‐(trichloromethylthio)cyclohex‐4‐ene‐1,2‐dicarboximide], a protectant fungicide, is one of the most important fungicides used to control apple scab, particularly when apple mildew is not severe. Many studies have been conducted to investigate captan residues on various crops in relation to physiological and physical factors in laboratory, storage or field conditions 14–18. However, there is still insufficient quantitative knowledge to assess the contributions of various factors to the observed variability and to predict captan residues under field conditions.…”

“…Captan is also widely used to control diseases in many other crops 8–10. Many studies have been conducted to investigate captan residues on various crops in relation to physiological and physical factors in laboratory, storage or field conditions 6, 8, 11–13. Spray retention varies greatly within a growing season owing to the change in canopy leaf density 11.…”
