Resilient and reprocessable physical gels based on crystalline olefin block copolymer elastomer and mineral oil toward optically transparent electronic packaging

“…Olefin block copolymers (OBC) are thermoplastic elastomers with alternating blocks of crystalline hard segments (with low 1-octene content) and rubbery soft segments (with high 1-octene content) developed by Dows through shuttling polymerization, , in which the hard segments can develop into spherulites even when the overall crystallinity is as low as 7% in OBC . Therefore, OBC exhibits excellent resilience, weather resistance, good compression set, and notably enhanced heat resistance that can be used in many fields such as cushion, electronic packaging, smart materials, and battery thermal management . It has also been reported that OBC can generate mesophase separated structure with domain spacings of 80–258 nm and can be used as photonic elastomers with selective visible light transmitted. , In our previous work, we found that the micro-crosslinking OBC exhibited good foamability because the reformed crystal regions could effectively suppress the shrinkage of the foams after foaming, and the foam with a density as low as 0.025 g/cm 3 was achieved successfully thanks to its excellent crystallization .…”
