Resilient liner vs. clip attachment effect on peri‐implant tissues of bar‐implant‐retained mandibular overdenture: a 1‐year clinical and radiographical study

Abstract: Within the limitations of this study, and in terms of peri-implant tissue health of bar-implant-retained mandibular overdenture, we recommend resilient liner rather than clip attachment.

“…The reduced or insignificant amount of HBLO that occurred during the follow‐up period is in contrast with the results of Elsyad & Shoukouki () who found a significant increase in HBL with advance of time when bar/implant‐retained mandibular overdentures were used. The reduced HBLO in this study may be attributed to the amount of posterior ridge resorption that occurred after 5 years which may mask the HBLO.…”

“…In this study, both vertical (VBL) and horizontal (HBLO) peri‐implant bone loss were evaluated because the peri‐implant crater shaped defect resulted from crestal bone loss had both vertical and horizontal dimensions. Evaluation of both vertical and horizontal bone loss was used in several studies . Vertical bone loss and HBLO increased significantly with time for both groups.…”

“…Plaque scores (PI) and Bleeding scores (BI) were assessed using the Modified plaque and bleeding indices . Using a calibrated plastic periodontal probe, the distance between marginal border of the peri‐implant mucosa and the tip of the probe was measured and considered as pocket depth (PD) .…”
